Trinity College

(TCD)

Situated close to Dublin's town center and just a short walk from O'Connell Bridge. Trinity College also known as TCD, was founded in 1592 by Elizabeth 1 on the site of All Hallows, an Augustinian monastery. At the dissolution, the property of the Abbey was granted to the Corporation of Dublin as a reward for its part in the defeat and capture of Silken Thomas, who, having renounced his allegiance to Henry VII in 1534, proceeded to attack Dublin on all sides; he was defeated, taken prisoner, and executed on Tyburn Hill. The Corporation, in1592, granted the Monastery grounds for the building of Trinity College. No part of the College erected in the reign of Queen Elizabeth I now remain.
